New Icon, New Button

published on 25 Sep, 2024. approximately a 2 minute read.

hey folks :) i've been busy the past couple of days working on some graphics alongside my partner, who drew a brand new icon for me!

the icon

i'd been using a picrew icon for a handful of years; some of my friends have never seen me use anything else. the launch of the site made me think i should finally get around to replacing that! the old one feels like a part of me, but this is a great time to move on.

big thanks to hellosunnycore for the picrew i used for my old icon

and so, behold! the new icon!

a cartoon bust of the author with cat ears, glasses, and earrings that look like swords.

i'm so freakin' happy with it. i've been staring at it for hours. i'm already using it on like, every website. but that also brings us to...

the button

i have a few other friends who are putting together sites, and there's been some interest within those circles in 88x31 buttons to link to each other. i've always thought they were cute, so you know what? here:

an animated looping button that says "algometric," and has a cartoon portrait of the author. there are 3 hearts in pink, purple, and blue. the hearts each turn white in turn after a short delay.

i'm going to need to put some work into the static site generator to be able to make and maintain a page that links to other people's buttons, which is a funny problem to have. i'm already starting to collect blogs to link to though, so i'm sure it won't be too long.

in the mean time, if you do want to link to mine, you can embed it on your own site with the following code:

<a href="https://algometric.pink" target="_blank">
  <img
    alt="algometric" title="algometric"
    src="https://algometric.pink/algobutton.gif"
    style="image-rendering: pixelated;"
    width="88" height="31"
  />
</a>

please let me know if you do!

it's been really fun making these! i'm grateful for my partner's drawing, and the graphic design of the other elements has been nice to spend some time on again. it's not a skill i get to flex very often.
